Kashmir, Fully Explored

Six unhurried days, with a night among Pahalgam's pines

6 Days / 5 Nights · Srinagar → Sonamarg → Gulmarg → Pahalgam (overnight) → Srinagar

The fuller version of Kashmir's classic loop — the same valleys, but with an actual night spent in Pahalgam instead of a rushed day trip, plus a stop at the Hazratbal Shrine.

Handcrafted by 2 Solo Souls | Slow travel, done right

What to Expect

Same icons, more room to breathe — a night in Pahalgam's pine air, a stop at Hazratbal on the way back from Sonamarg, and a final evening drifting on a Dal Lake houseboat.

Highlights of the Journey

  • Nishat Bagh and the Botanical Garden on arrival day.
  • Thajiwas Glacier by horse or Zero Point by adventure cab in Sonamarg, plus the Hazratbal Shrine on the way back.
  • The Gulmarg Gondola — the world's highest lift-served ski resort.
  • An overnight stay in Pahalgam itself, not just a day trip — with Betaab Valley, Chandanwari and Aru Valley by union cab.
  • A horse ride to Mini-Switzerland (Baisaran) and a final night on a Srinagar houseboat.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Srinagar

Land in Srinagar (1,730 m) on the Dal and Nagin lakes. Visit Nishat Bagh and the Botanical Garden, check in, and rest up for the days ahead. Overnight in Srinagar.

Day 2 – Srinagar – Sonamarg – Srinagar (84 km)

Drive to Sonamarg, ‘The Meadow of Gold’ (2,730 m), past the Sindh river and the 7 km Z-Morh tunnel. Hire a horse to Thajiwas Glacier, or take an adventure cab to Zero Point. On the way back, stop at the Hazratbal Shrine. Overnight in Srinagar.

Day 3 – Srinagar – Gulmarg – Srinagar (52 km)

Head to Gulmarg for the Gondola Cable Car — book tickets in advance. The world's highest lift-served ski resort offers a 5.2 km downhill run from 14,000 ft, and it's the best place in the valley for snow activities. Overnight in Srinagar.

Day 4 – Srinagar – Pahalgam (95 km)

Proceed to Pahalgam, the ‘Valley of Shepherds’ (2,130 m), in Anantnag district, at the confluence of the Sheshnag and Lidder rivers. Hire a union cab for Betaab Valley, Chandanwari and Aru Valley, then spend the evening at the local market. Overnight in Pahalgam.

Day 5 – Pahalgam – Srinagar (95 km)

Hire a horse for an adventurous ride to Mini-Switzerland (Baisaran), then head back toward Srinagar for a night on a traditional houseboat.

Day 6 – Departure

A final morning for any left-out sights in Srinagar, then a punctual transfer to the airport.

Pack Smart, Travel Well

What to Carry

  • Layered clothing — mornings and evenings turn cool even in summer.
  • Comfortable, sturdy walking shoes for gardens and glacier walks.
  • A light jacket or shawl for the houseboat and evening river breeze.
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses for high-altitude glare in Gulmarg and Sonamarg.

Good to Know

  • Union cabs are required for restricted zones in Pahalgam and Sonamarg — private vehicles aren't permitted beyond certain points.
